Must Read: A Year Without April

There have been a lot of “fad” books out lately (i.e. 50 shades of Grey, Hunger Games, Twilight, etc.) Though the hype has always lived up to my expectations, I was looking for a new read where I had…no expectations! I wanted to read a book that allowed ME to create the “picture” of what was being described…rather than always seeing Jennifer Lawrence/Katniss Evergreen, Kristin Stewart/Bella, and Ryan Gosling/Christian Grey (although I would never cast Ryan Gosling as Christian Grey, but I digress).
That’s when I came across Marcus Harrison Green’s “A Year Without April”.
“A Year Without April” isn’t just any old book about love, relationships, and heartbreak. It’s the story of everyday love and loss…written from the MAN’S perspective…something we never get to see in those “Fad” books!
As a female, I naturally assume that “we” are the emotional ones and get more torn up about situations like heartbreak, but Marcus has done a great job of giving us a story that, for once, isn’t about the sappy, emotional, annoying female. It’s about a man (Miles) who has to deal with and move on from heartbreak like an everyday person.
I am so drawn to Marcus’s writing style because he is honest, witty, and..well…REAL when describing what it’s like to go through, what feels like, an “end of the world” break-up.
We (females) know that a large pizza, a bottle of wine, andendless episodes of Sex and the City are comforting to us when we are going through something like this…but what does a male do? Well…you have to read to find out!
